Erica and David's Blush Vineyard Wedding

vineyard wedding

I’ve been very fortunate over the years to meet some incredible people. And one of my favorite parts of being a wedding florist is that I enjoy working with my brides!

I love getting to hear the details of their wedding. Not many people can handle hearing the specific details of the kind of linen you’re ordering for your wedding but I DO love to hear about those things! A Tuscany linen rented from La Tavola in 134” round in ice blue with coordinating chiavari chair pads? I’m 100% tracking with you and couldn’t be happier to see the color swatch! It’s not for everyone but it’s definitely for me.

Along with getting to hear all the details I genuinely become invested in your wedding and how every aspect of your vision becomes a reality. And with that, I often times get new friends! I love hearing from my brides. Even yesterday I received a random email from one of my bride’s from 3 years ago just checking in and seeing how things were going. Gosh, I love that and it makes me love my job even more-if possible!

Erica is one of those special people that has the sweetest spirit and kindest heart. I’ve been fortunate enough to keep tabs on her over the years and I even got to work with her on a styled shoot in Charleston! I love seeing her life updates on instagram.

Erica and David had a beautiful wedding at Veritas Vineyard in Charlottesville, VA on a sunny Summer evening. It was a scorcher but that didn’t stop anything from being less than perfection.

Check out that draping on the ceiling. She had farmhouse tables and a sweet color palette of soft neutrals. It was elegant, tasteful, classic and a lovely celebration of two special people. I’m so thankful I got to be a part of it and I still get to cheer them on! Enjoy the photos by Sam Stroud Photography.

Have you ever wondered if what you see is what you’re really going to get?

I totally get that. I hate buying something and it breaking within the first use of buying it. What a waste! And I know when it comes to your wedding flowers, you can’t make that kind of mistake.

That’s why it’s important to see what real brides have to say about your vendors. Check out Petal’s Wedding Wire page or our The Knot page to see what our brides have to say!

One of the guiding principles at Petal is that from the first time you share your vision about your wedding flowers, you feel heard and understood. It’s my job to grasp what you want, even if you don’t know how to explain it. Just because my days are filled with constant flower talk doesn’t mean you have to know the lingo or all the flower varieties to get the flowers you want. One photo can say a lot about your style so get on pinterest and look around for things you like. And check out Petal’s Pinterest page while you’re there!

I also believe in getting what you pay for. Weddings are expensive. Flowers are expensive. And there’s a lot, and I mean A LOT of labor that goes into creating wedding flowers that you would never dream about but, I still believe in value. So I’ll always do my best to help you figure out how you can get the most out of the budget that you have set aside for your flowers.

If you’re not sure, just give me a call or shoot me an email and I’d be happy to answer any of your questions! And if you’d like to start the conversation of your wedding flowers, you can visit our contact page to get the ball rolling!

Peaches and Cream North Carolina Wedding

I’ve been waiting for these photos to come in and they’re every bit as dreamy as I hoped the would be! This breezy October evening was filled with the sweetest moments between friends and family celebrating the love of one of my favorite bride and grooms, Baili and Seth. They’re so smitten with each other it’s contagious and they had a beautiful ceremony in a large open field with nothing but a cross and the support of their loved ones behind them. And a tree. There was tree.

David and Sarah did just a flat out amazing job with these photos so you have to check out their work if you’re on the photographer hunt. And the venue was spacious and the perfect blend of an outdoor tent meets barn vibe, so check out Summerfield Farms.

Burgundy Brewery Casual Winter Wedding

I love winter weddings!  When my friend Alicia asked me to do her bridal party flowers, I jumped at the chance!  They had a suckling pig pull for the reception at a brewery... I wish I was half that cool when I got married 10 years ago.  Their laid back style was such a joy throughout the entire planning process and I loved how the flowers turned out.  The contrast in her color palette and her sweet fur shrug...  She is glowing!  And did I mention we share the same name? We're both "lish".

Her photographer was Emily Sacra Photography and she did a fab job!

Please disregard my CHICKEN SCRATCH for handwriting. I had a stencil when I was in 1st grade to help me write, y'all. I still need it.

Preppy Pastel Vineyard Wedding

Nothing aggravates me more than something that's completely unrealistic.  Which is why I don't trust most eyebrow pencils, robot vacuum cleaners, and dare I say, some wedding magazine shoots.

I get that sometimes, photo shoots sole purpose is to be inspirational.  We all need to keep thinking forward and away from the mason jar but too much unrealistic can leave me feeling like what I'm going to have will never be good enough- and that's not cool.

So, today, I'm sharing another one of Petal's real life weddings.  Erica and David's wedding was magical, with all the gathered sheer drapery, rolling hills of glistening grape vines, and flowers EVERY WHERE to show you:

  1.  that real life is beautiful
  2.  something realistic and obtainable and not a fancy limitless budget photo shoot
  3.  you don't need to own land with oil on it to be able to afford it

It was put together by a beautiful bride who knows how to pick some of my favorite vendors.  Kim Newton- Wedding planner

Real-Wedding Inspired by Pinterest

I love finding out from our brides how they heard about Petal.  When I met Kelly, I thought she was too good to be to true.  Her story goes that she, like most brides, spent time pinning photos of what she hoped her wedding day would look like and fell in love with one photo on Pinterest. This one to be exact...

She went about her planning and even started doing a little flower designing on her own for fun because she loved this photo so much.

Then she came across Petal and learned that I (Elisha) had actually made THIS exact arrangement. Crazy!  This never happens.  Like ever. The stars aligned and we were obviously a match made in heaven just sitting in her own backyard.

We had the chance to work some flower magic for her wedding day at Oak Ridge and we loved how her garden-inspired wedding flowers looked on her wedding day! She was the sweetest Bride and we wanted to share her flower story of working with Petal and a few photos from her wedding day!

Here is an email we received from Kelly after her wedding:

We absolutely were thrilled with the flowers you designed for us for our wedding. You perfectly understood our vision. The color palette was stunning, the balance and symmetry of the arrangements, and the variety of the flowers selected was better than we could have imagined. Thank you so much for your thoughtful work and for your professional approach that made us feel comfortable and understood. You clearly approach you work both as a craft and as an art.

One of my favorite parts of my wedding day was when Jason and I were riding back in the golf cart to go inside after taking our portraits in the rain. I looked down at my bouquet in my lap, and was stunned that this was my life, in full blown technicolor. The flowers were so perfect, I couldn't even fathom it. I memorized the moment and the way the flowers looked. It was surreal.

The day after our wedding, after all our guests were gone, I looked at the arrangement you did for us that was sitting on our kitchen counter, and I cried that I was so lucky and had a better wedding than I could have imagined. I just kept saying, "those flowers are so beautiful, I can't even believe it!"

Jason and I have reflected that if we won the lottery, we would want our wedding to be exactly, EXACTLY how it was, and we wouldn't change a thing--except we would have ordered more of your flowers. TONS and tons and tons and tons of your flowers! :D

Truly thank you, and I look forward to following all your future work online!  Thank you so much!

Romantic Winter Elopement

organic whimsical wedding flowers elopement

When one of your favorite photographer friends asks you to make a bouquet for an elopement, you jump on it!  And that's exactly what I did when Kelsey from the duo, Kelsey & Nate asked me to make a bouquet for a secret elopement.

There wasn't a lot to choose from locally in the dead of winter, but that didn't hold me back!  Yes, even in the winter you can have beautiful, bold flowers that add texture, color, and interest to your wedding photos!

So here's the question, if you were to elope, do you think splurging on a bouquet like this is a good idea?

Let us know what you think!

Special thanks to Kelsey & Nate for the amazing photos, as always!
